Graduating from University of Missouri with an Ensign commission after completing Naval Officer Training, Captain Halferty spent two years active duty during the Korean War. He received the Korean Service Ribbon, along with numerous other awards. He remained active in the Naval Reserve, retiring in 1986. Having lost his brother, Van, in the Korean War, he is a member of a Gold Star family. Captain Halferty returned to Korea in 2010 as the keynote speaker in the Korea Revisit program and is currently Chairman of the Lone Star Chapter of Korean War Veterans here in Houston.
